There are many things that the human race cannot do without, and light is one of them. I'm not just talking about endlessly bumping into things by not being able to see, but the complete collapse of our world systems (in the environment and the economy, to name a couple) if, say, light ceased to exist. Without light, plants can't photosynthesise, so we would have no plants, which means we couldn't feed animals, so we couldn't feed ourselves and we would die, probably slowly and painfully.
What if light (in general) was "turned off" for a small period of time. Let's say, one minute. In that time, all manner of hell can happen. Cars will smash into each other, destroying buildings, numerous people would die in surgery in hospital, people will be hit by cars, each other, there will be blind rioting, etc. The list continues. Inevitably, a lot of damage will be done, with long term effects. Due to the cost of clearing up, the world economy will collapse, people may be made homeless if their houses were destroyed and a load of other things.
The thing is, we take light for granted. Without it, even for a tiny period of time, the earth would fall into devastation and destruction. Something so magical and complex as light may appear simple, harmless. But it can harm us in it's lack of existence.
You have a point. As someone who is terrified of the dark, I could not imagine what life would be like in the absence of light.
ReplyDeleteWell there wouldn't be life without light for long...we would all die! How long have you had your fear of the dark? Thanks for the comment :)
ReplyDeleteIf we didn't have light, but had the heat from the sun still, I'm sure life would adapt.
ReplyDeleteFat chance of humans surviving though ;)
Hopefully, anonymous person :o
